The role of the Technical Assistant in the testing laboratories is to prepare samples submitted to the laboratory so that work is completed within required turnaround times.

Requirements

• Grade 12
• 1-2 Years relevant laboratory experience

Responsibilities

• Perform sample preparation for simple tests independently.
• Handle sample storage and disposal of samples after testing is completed.
• Cleaning of laboratory environment, plastic and glass ware.
• Improve laboratory efficiency.
• Ensuring adherence to departmental TAT’s and early warnings to direct supervisor of any delay on TAT.
• Responsible for the upkeep of laboratory instruments.
• Cleaning & disinfection of equipment.
• Ensure that all preparation, storage, disposal and related tasks are performed in accordance with OHS and Quality Assurance Policies and Procedures.
• Implementation of quality TAT corrective actions for area of responsibility.
• Ensure correct stock levels are maintained effectively for testing.
• Ensuring adherence to own personal development plan.
• Ensure good working relationships with internal clients.

Description

Effective management of the certifications service line, such as project planning, management of budgets,extensions and maintenance of accreditation and other administrative functions. Client relations and interactions, as well as the compilation of proposals and handling of client requests. Additional functions such as the provision of technical guidance and training to be provided to all subordinates, which may include support with certain projects.

Requirements

• Degree / Diploma in Quality Management
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in system implementation
• Minimum three (3) years full-time work in quality assurance or food safety function in the following sectors is advisable:
  • Manufacturing
  • Or the equivalent (e.g. inspection, enforcement, etc.)
• Clear understanding of ISO/IEC 17021-1, ISO/IEC 17021-2, ISO/IEC 17021-3, ISO/IEC 17021-10, ISO/IEC 17065, FSSC scheme, GFSI scheme, GLOBALG.A.P. scheme, TS, JAS-ANZ and SANAS requirements.

Responsibilities

• Management of Certifications as a profit center to reach budget targets.
• Project planning and management of projects / clients within the service line to be financially feasible.
• Market share guidance and new opportunity sharing with business development.
• Effective utilization of income generating staff by ensuring appropriate productivity levels and effective scoping.
• Cost management.
• Monitor client feedback reports, both positive and negative and provide feedback to management on monthly basis at minimum. Quality assurance of product delivery.

• Maintain accreditation through effective implementation and maintenance of the management system.
• Maintenance of client portal data.

• Maintain competencies of all certification staff including sub contractors
• Performance and development of staff through the performance management procedure and setting of KPI’s.
• Resource capacity building/management.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications;maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

• National Diploma in Biotechnology or BSC Degree in Microbiology
• 1-2 years’ experience in a food safety micro laboratory

• Conduct simple and complex test independently.
• Verification of results independently and interpret data against known sources of information.
• Improve laboratory efficiency.
• Ensuring adherence to departmental TAT’s and early warnings to direct supervisor of any delay on TAT.
• Cleaning and disinfection of equipment.
• Responsible for upkeep of laboratory instrument and notification to management of calibration and service requests.
• Ensure that all analysis and related tasks are performance in accordance with OHS and Quality Assurance Policies and Procedures.
• Implementation of quality TAT corrective actions for area of responsibility.
• Maintaining acceptable proficiency scores for work conducted.
• Ensure correct stock levels are maintained effectively for testing.
• Managing consumable costs.
• Timely completion of all reporting requirements and responses to any team member as required.
• Other duties as assigned by the company within the Employee’s scope of work.
